Orphans, smile, and be happy.

Slowly but surely, information is leaking in on the upcoming Arrested Development movie. This comes from Mitch Hurwitz, at a panel for his upcoming show, “Sit Down, Shut Up,” at this weekend’s WonderCon…

Here’s what’s going on with the movie. Everyone goes off and has careers and that kind of thing, so it’s been a little challenging to schedule everybody together, but everyone who has agreed to make this movie has agreed to make this movie, and we’re going to make the movie. I haven’t written it yet, so I’ll be accepting pitches. We’re determined to do this. It was a great joy and priviledge, all kidding aside, to do a show that took risks and with such a wonderful cast and wonderful writers. For us, it’s irresistible. Here’s an interesting thing about it. When we did the show, one of the things that really made it work is that we didn’t hold ourselves up to any standard. We got a lot of positive critical recommendations, but we even kind of ignored those and just did what was funny to us, and kind of remained the underdog in a great way. It was very clear early on that we weren’t going to be a big hit, so it really was a labor of love. Now suddenly, there is a bar to hit. I think the key to this is once we get as many pieces as we’re going to, which appears we have, we’ll just dive in and have fun and see if we can create the same thing. But we’re excited about it.

Cool, huh? Remember everyone, these next five years are going to go by quick!

Daddy horny Michael, pt. 2

It looks like the possibility of an Arrested Development movie just moved from the, “I’m pretty sure,” to the, “It’s a go!” phase. Entertainment Weekly caught up with Jeffrey Tambor at the premier of Hellboy 2 this weekend, who had this to say…

“After months of speculation, I think we have finally figured out for sure that we are indeed doing an Arrested Development movie. I am very excited about that. I love the cast and crew and felt like we had more to say.”

Hopefully we’ll get an official greenlight from the studio before too long. But right now, things are looking up. So, we can all breath a little easier. Our long, national nightmare is almost over.

“Daddy horny Michael.”

Move It Move It is reporting on a story reported on by The Moving Picture reported on by The Times Online. It looks like Arrested Development fans may be seeing the Bluth family again, as early as next year. In an interview with Jason Bateman, the co-star of next month’s Hancock has this to say…

“When it was on TV, if you missed one word the whole third act could be vlown for you. And TV is a different experience. You come home and you’ve got to finish a call so you miss the first ten minutes or you get snacky and you go to the fridge and you miss another two minutes, so it’s a different experience to film.”

A hint perhaps? Man, I hope so. Thinking about such a great show being cancelled before it’s time makes me sad, and I cry.

Let the great experiment begin!

I read an article on comingsoon.net this morning that, if true, is probably the best movie news I’ve heard in the past year. Read on!

Kristen at E! Online was told by Jason Bateman that “the creative minds behind ‘Arrested Development’ (Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard) have put the wheels in motion toward a major motion picture of the Fox TV comedy so many of us adore. I’m told by insiders that Jason and other Bluth family members have received calls from producers (Hurwitz and Howard) asking if they would be willing to shoot a movie.”

“I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started,” Bateman said. “Any talk is targeting a poststrike situation, of course. I think, as always, that it’s a question of whether the people with the money are willing to give our leader, Mitch Hurwitz, what he deserves for his participation. And I can speak for the cast when I say our fingers are crossed.”

She adds that other cast members were called and that everyone seems to be very much on board and excited by the prospect.

Bwaah?! Nintendo sixty-foooooooouurr!1 If you’ve never seen an episode of Arrested Development, rest assured that you are a completely worthless person and do not yet truly know the meaning of the word “funny”. The writing on the show was so witty, I really don’t think there’s any way an Arrested Development movie could not be awesome. Hopefully things will move along quickly once this writers strike fiasco is resolved.

Yesterday’s TV, Today… for Tomorrow!

January 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

If anyone from the 80’s were alive today, I bet they’d turn on the TV, flip through the channels, and say, “What is this, the eighties?” Right now, we have new episodes of Battlestar Galactica and Bionic Woman, with new episodes of Knight Rider on the way. As long as the studios aren’t worried about being original anymore, here are a few TV shows I’d like to see resurrected.

He-Man

Starring Dolph Lundgren’s package. This is a show that doesn’t even need an update. Just do a live-action show using scripts from the old cartoon. It was filled with so much sexual innuendo, no one will realize that it’s twenty years old. The pictures speak for themselves.

The A-Team

To make the show a little more contemporary, set it in New Orleans. That’ll give it that K-Ville flavor – which is another brilliant show, and undoubtedly the greatest cop drama of all ALL time. Of course, if this new A-Team were to ever be made, then it would be the greatest cop drama of all time. In this version, Hannibal, Peck and Murdock go around the city making witty observations about cajun food and jazz music while chasing down smugglers and pirates. BA Baracus (who’s still being played by Mr. T) goes around beating up gangbangers and Hurricane Katrina. Cajun style. He’s also a cocaine addict. Cajun style.

Who’s the Boss

You had always heard from a friend of a friend of a friend that Tony Danza did a few porno movies before his talk show sky-rocketed him to TV stardom and into our hearts. Watch as this after hours “sitcom” gives new meaning to Danza’s classic catch phrase, “Hey! Tone-ay!” Rated M for mature viewers. It gets a little blue.

Arrested Development

Who cares when it was made? Everyone loved it! Just bring it back!

Of course, none of these shows will ever get made/come back. At least, with the writers strike on, there’s plenty of American Gladiators and Deal or No Deal on TV.
